Are You Listening To God?

You may read the Bible daily. You may go to church one, two, or three times a week.

But are you really listening, or are these formal points of contact, meetings with a boss whom you like but whose presence you prefer to ignore elsewhere?

Examine your life.

God’s words are whispered in the sunrise that you had the chance to ignore, or to enjoy – and for which you might have thanked Him, and given Him something back.

His words are spoken in the television commercial for “Save the Children”; can you justify a daily Starbucks’ latte when that money, donated, would feed a child for a week?

His words are shouted in the mute appeal of the homeless. We often pass them by; “They’ll just buy drugs or booze!”

But that judgement is not our privilege, let alone our right. And if we are so concerned, we can always supply food, from a candy bar to a meal from McDonalds.

Here is the proof that we are listening…

The point is not the gift – it is the giving.

Live While You Are Dying

We are all dying.

We can deny this, by busy-ness or by using products that make us look young.

Has Grecian Formula or Oil of Olay ever stopped death for anyone you knew?

I thought not.

There is way to cheat death, and that is by choosing life. It is by looking Death in the face and saying, “I will drink the cup you offer, but know this; my soul is in the hands of the Lord, and I will rise again, as He rose.”

Hagakure, the code of the Samurai, opens by saying that a samurai should always be prepared to die. And then it goes on, to tell the samurai how to live with honor.

That is the key. Accept it, and go on. Live with honor, and take that honor with you as you step through the door into Heaven.

What will you take with you, when you meet the Lord?
